see my "huge spoilers" post above but I don't think it's slight at all (spoilerish)

It's about choosing whom to try to build a life. It may not have a global impact, but it has a huge impact in a person's life. The decision that Jake Johnson's character makes at this juncture will greatly shape the rest of his life. Because it's presented in a more naturalistic way it can feel inconsequential but I think the style emphasizes that these are the defining decisions real people have to make in life. There may not be some huge dramatic event or circumstance but the impact they have on your future is big.
