I researched it a bit and apparently it went through so many rewrites and writers that they actually went into filming without a final script.

Undoubtedly this was a Hollywood happy ending, as seems to always be required (we're just that simple as a people I guess). Apparently in the graphic novel, she dies having sacrificed herself to enable him to succeed.

America would *hate* that
