It's always the peanuts that get you. That said, her problem was also that she never took efforts to win over her caucus.

She used the teachers' union to get elected (black mark number one from a base that doesn't trust public sector unions), she then took her victory for granted as if she didn't have to win over the caucus that never backed her, and when under pressure, her allies targeted far more popular pols and activists in the party she was trying to lead.
Thats...not going to lead to a successful political party leadership.
