we do this is really fascinating people watching (I've linked an article with video of the steps). I have seen some of the fittest people with the best bodies I've ever seen. Some people are running these stairs, carrying weights. There are logs at the bottom that some carry across their shoulders on the way up (or run the hill next to the stairs instead of the stairs). Some get to the top and do push ups or box jumps on to picnic tables. It's really crazy. College football teams and cross country teams work out there. On the flip side there are seriously overweight people just trudging up the stairs one at a time, stopping to rest. The Biggest Loser Resort is nearby and brings vans full of their guests. I saw a muslim woman in full burka carrying an oxygen tank up a flight. It's really interesting. For the record I did 30 sets of the stairs on Saturday (6 sets of 5 reps). When I started (and I was not in bad shape), my heart would be racing by about the 1/2 way point of 1 rep. It's really tough.
