I've been trying to unearth older articles, with no luck, but this one from last fall does seem to be saying he previously had some Tea Party support. -- (link)

I haven't followed Cantor closely, but my recollection is that he hasn't been coda. He's shown the willingness to be moderate/compromise at times.
