Addition? She was on a number of episodes last season.

And I don't know much about cosplay/cosplayers, but I would suggest that those two aren't "relatively unknown." Before the show started, I actually knew who they were, but I had no idea who Yaya Han was.
I would also suggest that they would normally hang out at least occasionally, as the other two had a show on the Nerdist Youtube channel. Chloe is currently dating Chris Hardwick, aka Nerdist. And I think they're all L.A. based.
The real reason she's on is that she was about the only thing praised by people who didn't like the show last year. My guess is that Syfy also didn't ask Monika Lee and Victoria back for a related reason. They seemed to be the ones people really didn't like. The other person who I think got a lot of praise was apparently wanted back, but she moved. Location and scheduling were apparently issues.
As for third wheel, most times two friends who work together hang out with a newer (I'm assuming) friend there is probably some bit of third wheelness. Especially when the first two are more experienced at what they're doing/talking about.
