'34 percent of Vermont residents say they have "no religion."'

If asked to identify what state had the highest number of people saying they are affiliated with "no religion," I think I would have guessed Vermont out of the top 20.

(I would have tended to think Northwestern states were less religious, for some reason, and the northeastern states were more.)
