I think people have finally come around to the idea that just becuase it's a comic movie or an action movie doesn't mean it shouldn't strive for

being great. Real actors performing to the top of their games (Ledger, Downey, Depp in POTC...)

with witty script writers putting projects in the hands of directors who acctually 'get' the subject matter.

Nolan for Batman; Petey Jackson for LOTR, Bryan Singer for X-Men, Raimi for Spidey...
