but i don't think it's a media thing, necessarily. i think that for people to be winners at the highest level, they generally need to believe they are better than anyone else and will do what's necessary to win.
it's not at all a bad thing when it comes to competitive sports to believe in your own mind that you are the best.
it's especially true in a sport like basketball or soccer, where one single person can make all the difference, it's true of people like maradona, pele, russell, bird, magic, jordan and james. they walk the walk.
it's one reason why, as much as i really like kevin durant, i don't think he'll ever win anything. he's just too nice a guy to have the killer instinct.
