Adventures in Housesitting: The entire neighborhood is effing insane and this is the headquartres. I am to leave the doors unlocked so the neighbors

can come in, and they do. THe house is full of valuable antiques and art. Like, there's a Rembrandt etching upstairs.

Within an hour after the owners left on Saturday, 2 old dudes showed up with beer, sat down in the kitchen and started drinking. Then three more people wandered in. around midnight there was a knock on the door and neighbor Pattee was there (I know her pretty well and she's cool). Pattee had just been holding a graduation party for her son. She had an older woman with her and said Anna needs to sleep here. Anna was carrying a handbasket with an antique white nightgown in it. Anna said she would go to her usual room. The dog obviously knew her well because he slept in her bed.

Next morning I got up and Anna came downstairs in her antique nightgown. Turns out she is a high end independent art restorer who has worked on many priceless old paintings and murals. She told me about a lot of the artwork here in this house and gave me some dirt I hadn't known. we had a really cool conversation in our jammies over espresso.

That was the first day.

So I'm taking care of two purebred Springer Spaniels. Miles is 14 and slow, and I love him. Moses is I think 6, and he is mentally retarded. This is not a joke, the veterinarian and also the dog behavior expert told Danni to put him down but she can't do it . he is REALLY sweet but totally nuts. I posted video of him on my FB if you want to see. I love him but he drives me nuts. I'm learning to tune out his spastic barking attacks. He's been doing it for the last hour all around where I'm sitting, and, whatever.

SO. this week I'm at work, and was very nervous about leaving the dogs at home all day because they are very high maintenance. Miles needs to pee a lot, and Moses tends to destroy things, break through windows, and get himself trapped in the bathroom. I have all the neighbors' phone numbers and wait for their calls all day.

This week nice old dude Hank and creepy old drunk Phil are "working" on the deck. I see them in the mornings so I know they are here. But so far I see absolutely nothing disturbed in the deck area. Meanwhile, I do find wine glasses in the kitchen. But at least they are watching the dogs so that's good.

TOnight I get home and there's a frozen duck thawing on the stove top, no sign of work on the deck, wine glasses, and my artist buddy Jordan called me to inform me three people will be spending the night. One is creepy Phil, then there's Jordan (it's his duck apparently), and maybe Kurt my art teacher. His first summer class is tonight, I decided not to sign up, and i got a slew of irate texts demanding to know why I didn't sign up. So he might be staying here too.

don't ask me where they will all sleep. I'm in the master bedroom and there's one guest bed. they can slug it out and also fend for themselves in the kitchen.
