No, the inexact timing is not a big deal to soccer fans.

as in, it doesn't bother them and probably makes the game better than if it were rigidly timed. That's why it's defended.

Yeah, if they went to an NHL-like clock-stopping model, the games would be unwatchably long. And boring. -- nm
