Hockey *is* soccer on ice but with sticks imo.

The free flow as opposed to rigidity is indicative of how each sport evolved. Hockey could easily be a two half/30 minute period sport with red and yellow cards. It is not difficult to envision that. It is much harder to imagine soccer with hockey rules, however, because the pacing is so methodical.
I guess Lacrosse is technically accurate but I certainly don't consider that a major sport. Do you really?

the main difference is hockey is 45 seconds of sprinting, soccer is 90 minutes of endurance. that changes the character of the games, imo. -- nm
