CA has a private diagnostic service, they go through your car and give you a list, check for recalls, silent or otherwise

if they had that here I would have saved 5k on a transmission as the problem was really a fucked smog device.
but they'll tell you things like motor mounts, timing belt, other things you might not think off and mechanics don't bother with.
they'll tell you that you don't need to change your hydro fluid just because its brown, its what it does
