Question for the tattooed STers - how did you determine where to go for your first one? Word of mouth? Random pick?

I'm planning on getting one while I'm back in RI. The place I got my others at closed years ago and I don't even remember how or why I picked that place.
I was planning on getting to a place owned by a friend of a friend, but last night I heard a commercial for a local place that is doing a fundraiser this weekend. "Free" tattoo for a donation to the American Cancer Society ($50 per 1/2 hour). I love the idea of that, but know nothing of the studio so I'm not sure how to pick.

I went for the first 2 from word of mouth, the others were random, and one was a cousin who started inking. nm -- nm

I asked several people that had what I considered to be good tattoos. The first three people I asked all said the same place. Got online checked it. -- nm
