The Outsider was written in 1967. It was required reading for me in either middle or high school. It's required reading for my daughter

for 8th grade.
The book was pushing 20 years old when I had to read it. It's pushing 50 years old now.
Seriously, schools, find some contemporary fiction to teach with.

Do you mean S.E. Hinton's The Outsiders? I first read it in 4th grade, which would have been 1969. -- nm
