if you're dealing with most categories of faculty at most universities, we're on 9-month contracts. That means we don't get paid for work done in the 3 summer months. Now me, I'm still in the office every day getting work done. But many faculty members don't, because they're not required to. I have several colleagues I haven't seen since mid-May.
