And you'd like to know why :) A research team has developed a software modeling program that sounds a lot like Sim City.

They input landscape, resources, and climatic conditions for a particular area and the program populates it and shows how the people could have lived and carrying capacity, etc. By inputting known climatic changes they can see how populations may have changed over time and maybe explain various things like why was Chaco abandoned.
