Bull. It's a tiny track, coming out of a corner, with the kid purposely trying to get in the way.

Stewart probably had a quarter second to see the kid coming out of that corner and he jerked the wheel left to avoid hitting the kid with the front of the car and unfortunately that kicked the rear wheels out and that didn't miss the kid.
