In response to "so, where do we fall on the blame for this dirt track kid getting killed?" by groiny

I don't know Stewart's intent or his alternatives, but I do know that Ward would be alive if he'd stayed with his vehicle.

But more than either driver, I blame the safety procedures of the track and industry. They had obviously sent out the safety crew in their truck with the intention for them to deal with his disabled car while the rest of the field was still moving under the Caution flag. On a track that size, that's lunacy. The first rule all motorsport should impose now is that any time a pedestrian is on or going to be on the track, ALL STOP. 'Caution' motion still leaves the drivers thinking about position and fuel and pit strategy and not focused on safety, which should be the number one goal after so many lives lost in the industry.

Secondly, I can't believe they've let these guys get out of their cars and attack others. I'd be issuing multiple race suspensions if not a full season suspension on any driver who did that. You wanna fight? Take it outside, but while you're on the track you have no right to risk harm to yourself or others. Stay in or near your vehicle when at all possible.

I'm sure there would be pissing and moaning that that would kill the flow of the race or make it harder to restart etc. That argument would be the same mentality as "not allowing NFL guys to tackle how they want because of concussion worries is a nanny state ruining football." It's a damn sport. Safety should always come first, and you impose it on everyone when they can't demonstrate the self control needed.
