Priorities!

This weekend I had to take my 5 year-old daughter to two birthday parties back to back. I dropped off the older kids at Grandma's and dutifully hung around the first birthday party with the other parents until I saw that a local acquaintance was posting on FB from the hospital. More specifically, she was posting from the in-patient mental health ward. There were certainly a number of posts of support for her on FB, and she posted when visiting hours would be. It was conveniently timed during that first birthday party so I left my daughter and showed up at the start of visiting hours. Despite all the posts of support, no one else had come. To be clear, I had met her all of twice in person, and we were largely FB acquaintances but she needed help, so I came to listen, and I brought her my copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone because she was bored. I stuck around for about a half hour and let her know that if she needed a ride or anything, to let me know. And then I returned to pick up my daughter and take her to the second birthday party.

Near the end of the second birthday party, I got a text from her that they would release her, but only into someone's custody, and she needed a ride. So I grabbed my daughter and returned to the hospital. She had made plans to stay with a friend out of town but still needed to get home first. Technically, I was supposed to accompany her all the way to her destination and not leave her alone, but that was difficult given that my daughter was along for the ride and I had to go pick up my other kids.

I took her home, texted her a couple of times to make sure she was OK, and then texted her friend later that evening to make sure she had arrived. All was well.

Today she messaged me that she was back in the ER after having taken some pills. So, that's fun. She's back in town. I'm trying to entertain her online via FB and she seems to be amused, but I think she just disabled her FB account, so I'm texting her, instead. I do believe I'll send her pictures of cats with stuff on their heads. That's always a winning combination.

Links to funny animal videos would be appreciated.
