I saw something new and different while at a memorial service/funeral today.

The funeral home had a corner of the outside perimeter (probably not a very good description, but the rooms that hold the caskets/the services were in the middle of the building, so this was in part of the outer walkway/hall area that led to that main room) that had a "children's section". It had a small kiddie table and chairs, with books, a card game, quiet handheld toys, and a sign that basically said "hey kids, we're glad you're here. Please feel free to spend quiet time here, make sure you pick up after you're done" etc.

I don't think I've ever seen that at a funeral home before. I heard a few people mutter about how "inappropriate" it was. Others - almost all of whom had young children - thought it was a welcome idea.

I mentioned to one of the employees that I've never seen that before but thought it was a great idea. He told me that his wife grew up in that funeral home, now they have a young child. "Funerals aren't only about the adults."
