I've stayed away from commenting on that part of this only because there are a LOT of self-serving statements that seem to cover the full range of who

The transaction in the store seems to be pretty well documented by video, though audio would definitely be a benefit.
But what went on in the interaction with the cop? No clue.
The only consistent part of the stories is that the cop and kid were 20-30 feet apart when the kid was shot. That's both a lot of distance and not very much distance at all.
