The publication used five different areas to come up with the rankings: three years of TV ratings, three years of stadium attendance, three years of merchandise sales, social media reach and hometown crowd reach (defined by market analyst Nielsen Scarborough as a percentage of the metropolitan area population that watched, attended, and/or listened to a game in the last year).
