He was going to produce and let del toro direct.

And I agree, he's not into it. You just can't take a 200 page kids book and make an 8-9hr movie. We all hoped he could pull it off but it's not happening.

But the studio knows there were billions left on the table if they only made one or even two movies instead of 3.

I wonder if anyone will stealth edit these down into one movie?
