In response to "I think I'm buying an up bracelet. does anyone here have anything to say about this? -- nm" by peggy ann m

I have the Nike Fuelband and the one thing I'll say with all of these products is to understand what they do and what they don't do. Since most of

them (including the up I believe) essentially have accelerometers that track your motion they tend to measure well when you're moving your arms. Walking and running are the things they're best at. They can't tell if you're moving your arms while lifting weights. They can't tell you're moving at all if you're doing something like a push up. They will measure lots of movement if you're at a concert or something and clapping your hands. I get a lot of movement registered when playing the guitar. Probably not great riding a bike. You get the idea. What I find it very useful for is just after a while getting a sense of what my days look like on average and it lets me know if I'm moving less or more than usual. But I don't think it's particularly accurate for all daily activities.
