The 2014 South Napa earthquake occurred near American Canyon, California on August 24 at 3:20 a.m. local time, measuring at 6.0 on the moment magnitude scale. The tremor's epicenter was located approximately 3.7 miles (6.0 km) northwest of American Canyon near the West Napa Fault.
The earthquake was largest to hit the San Francisco Bay Area since the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake 25 years earlier.
