In response to "Biggie is the Nirvana of rap. Jay-Z is the Pearl Jam of rap. Discussify. -- nm" by TFox

There's one major reason that Biggie isn't Nirvana.

When Biggie hit, there was already a lot of rap being played on radio/MTV.

When Nirvana hit, all I ever heard was crap I never wanted to listen to. Then they hit, and things changed. I was living in southern Indiana at the time. The radio airplay there didn't/doesn't represent the rest of the country, so others might have had different experiences. Conversely, for that change to be so far reaching was bigger than anything Biggie did. And sorry, but I don't think he would have been the one to make that change if there wasn't already others having rap on the radio/MTV.
