I somewhat disagree on Sherlock.

But I've previously said that Sherlock seems like every few years they make 3 Sherlock movies.
And for the reasoning, Fargo was done with the intent to be contained. It was so successful that they are probably doing another season.
True Detective could have likely gotten mini-series in the same way that AHS does, but they wanted to go for the more prestigious drama series awards. At least, that's my guess.
