In celebration of National Dog Day (and since you guys like this stuff), I have a new addition...

Last month while on vacation in the Bay Area I got involved in a corgi rescue operation and getting a neglected corgi out of a bad situation. Since Golden Gate Corgi lost their insurance at their rescue facility it fell to the local group of corgi owners. I won't go into all the health problems the poor thing had, except to say it's a full grown adult male of indeterminate age that only weighed 19 pounds. Since I have handled difficult rescues before the others wanted me to take it, but I wasn't sure if Bobby would be OK with that. Well we were all introducing it to our dogs to see if there was a good fit and Bobby sniffed it, showed alarm and immediately came back to me and brought me over the dog. He wanted me to help it and didn't calm down until I picked it up.

It's been a month now and Oliver (please sir, I want more) has gained a little weight and most of his pressing medical issues have been resolved. I still have to feed him small meals every 6 hours, but that's way better than every 2 hours when I first got him. He's going back to the Bay Area this weekend to take part in a corgi function and we're going to take photos that can be used for corgi fund raising.

Bobby has been instrumental in his recovery. When Oliver was too weak to walk and was struggling to get up, Bobby would alert me. Bobby could also tell when Oliver needed to go outside. Bobby taught him the rules of the house and nudges him when he starts to do something he's not supposed to.

Oliver has a lot of energy now and can walk at a good pace for 30 minutes. He's going to be a good trail dog next hiking season. I was planning to just foster him until I could find him a forever home, but he's bonded so much with Bobby and with me, that I decided to keep him. He barked for the first time on Sunday, which is a very good sign. Not bad for a dog that we almost put down.
