Closure: I went with B, which was lucky be wise I got moved to the seat immediately behind me, and didnt get stuck with the hair that won't recline.

The new seat is a lot easier for me to take a surreptitious drink or two of the wine I brought on the train, which is "against the law" as we are told before each journey. So karmic win.
The people across the aisle from me went with A. I'll keep you posted if anything bad happens to them.
