The directing and pacing of the Deep Breath episode of Dr Who was abysmal. (spoils)

The sword fight with the droids at the end was pitiful in how it was staged and shot.
The scene with the Doctor standing on the bridge watching the dinosaur burn should have been a wide angle with him shouting his condemnation of the pudding brains, not a close up.
And parts of it just dragged.
I think Capaldi will be fine. But Coleman's abilities have been wasted on Clara, who is so thinly written.
And the whole thing at the end with 11 reassuring Clara was aimed at who exactly? Fans of the show don't need that type of reassurance that the new guy won't suck, they need the new guy not to suck.
Not thrilled with the start of the season at all, but I'm willing to give it a chance in the hopes the Moffet gets back to the greatness he's capable of.
