however, debit is starting to cost businesses too... there has been a swing in some restaurants no longer taking debit, but having an ATM in the place

that way you can still get cash and pay by debit, but the customer is taking the hit for the fees at the ATM itself.
i've had two restaurant owners tell me this is happening and spreading for lower end restaurants.
