I can't quite get a handle on the Doctor. He seems very distant. what has he been doing for the last 1000 years? I'm hoping we get an interesting answer. He seems to be doing penance - or trying.

Not sure about the new Clara. She has always been a manic pixie dreamgirl, and she remains the same - as in how she was flirting with Mr. Pink. Her job and life seem trite considering her other life with the Doctor.
Basically, she is still a thinly written character with little context. She just seems always in a vacuum in her real life.
