Is there a trick for getting a dog to let you put ointment in his eye?

My corgi has conjunctivitis and I have to put an ointment in his eye 3x/day. He hates it, and my normally docile buddy is baring his teeth at me and growling. He hasn't bit me yet but he's definitely letting me know that he isn't cool with it.

Well, you want to buy her dinner first, and maybe some flowers.... -- nm

I put a treat behind my ear, that way he stays put and looks up at me and keeps his head still. -- nm
