Oh, there was a bit of the overall arc in this story, but the story itself was just awful (spoils)

There is no depth to the writing.
The only reference to the overall arc was on the ship. Its destination was "The Promised Land''
The only thing I think they could be doing with the types of stories they're writing is trying to reflect the types of stories (including bad, bad storytelling and crap set design) we saw with the various Doctors over the years.
There are 12 Episodes this season and 12 Doctors.
So Episode 1 tried to reflect the long, slow, boring, psuedo-philosophical;/intellectual Hartnell years.
Episode 2 was the serious, inward-looking style of Troughten
Episode 3 was the complete nonsensically silly Pertwee.
Maybe Episode 4 will be reflective of the Tom Baker years.
All this leading to Episode 12 with the Capaldi Doctor finally establishing his own personality.
