This is revisionist, imo. The Ray Rice story was a big, continuing sports story since February.

Plenty of people cared. Plenty of people condemned him. The problem was before the video was released that when people condemned Rice they were met with "How do you know? You haven't seen the video. You can't know."
There was a big story out there, perpetuated by the Ravens and the NFL, that what Rice did wasn't what was in the police report. Once the video was released, there was absolutely no argument to be made for Rice. Everyone could judge now openly, and did so.
