In response to "Part of the strength of Iron Man is the journey of it." by Spawn

Oh, I get the character, and I get Downey is brilliant...

I think overall, the character journey happens relatively quickly on film.

He is a war-profiteer, he sees his munitions being used to kill people (including himself), he escapes becuase he needs to escape, he comes home, already realizing his materials are killing people in the non-abstract way...and he's off to the races as peace-keeper/Iron Man.

And the ending, "The truth is...I am Iron Man." is delivered as not just about his journey to hero (already completed by his first returning press conference) as it's also about Tony Stark is an arrogant SOB.
