ok, so this sounds totally fishy and stuff . . . when I was at the shop getting my flat tire taken care of, i got a highly suspect phone call . . .
|
from a guy who sounded like he was from India . . . that should be the 1st clue.
anyway, he's talking all urgent and what not, basically saying that i've "downloaded some things illegally" and that -- this is a key thing that he said -- i need to "save my computer" . . .
i could barely understand what he was saying, so i was like, who are you trying to call?
it sounded like he was giving me that name of Susan or Suzanne that he was trying to reach, again being emphatic that i needed to save my computer because I'd illegally downloaded some things. he goes on to say that he's calling the person that the Windows program is registered to and cites me my cell phone number.
but when pressed, i could not get a clear definitive answer as to who he was trying to reach. i couldn't get a clear response as to who he was and where he was calling from either . . .
finally, after a couple of minutes of going back and forth, i was like, "look. who are you trying to reach and what are you talking about?"
and that's when he basically hung up on me.
for the record, while I have downloaded some things in recent days, nothing that i'm aware of has been of the illegal sort. certainly no kiddy porn or anything like that which is clearly illegal and all.
and yes, I just tried to look it up via reverse look up on the internet. the number, at least on the surface, seems to be originating out of Texas, and according to the site that i'm looking this up through has been flagged as "moderate spam activity suspected" . . .
i'm not going to sweat it. i have too much other bullsh!t things in my life to worry about. it's just annoying with ass-tarts like that call up people and try to stir up anxiety and stuff, trying to play on the casual thinker's fears and try to scam them into some hysteria.
