he knew he had about 1-2 years, with Germany at least partly occupying the attention of the US, before things would start to turn.
When you read about the armadas we used in the Pacific in '44 and '45 it dwarfs Normandy. 5-7 full size aircraft carriers, a few battleships, dozens of heavy and light cruisers, etc. I saw a picture once of a fleet off of Okinawa and it was staggering.
