because she's marketing herself to singers; but the getting on the stage for "I'm just a girl" was so forced and awkward, made more so by its not working.
otoh, I think the addition of pharrell (aside from his recently revealed lies, oof) makes things extra interesting -- even more than usher, having someone who has been a successful producer over a bunch of years takes the competition for singers to a different level.
when blake and adam mentioned their past successess, I wish someone would have asked them (they never would, of course) just how successful some of those winners have turned out to be? not very.
