I think more than anything, Lost's legacy is that it was the bridge to networks realizing that finite plans were better than open-ended mythos

We've seen The X-Files and the few shows that were mythos-heavy just utterly collapse under their own weight when the people in charge had to scrounge to extend the run becuase they were given the chance by greedy networks.
Lost was a victim of that for a bit until those guys said, "That's it, we're ending this." but they'd already scrounged so many red herrings that the show lost the trust they'd earned.
Now, GoT is exactly what you've said...and Breaking Bad basically went out with back to back Best Drama awards and is now ranked as one of the most acclaimed dramas ever. Ten years ago, GoT would only be midway through Book 2 now, and Breaking Bad would be heading toward Season 7 where Walt survived another serious relapse of his cancer...
And we still have Supernatural which proves CW is still searchign for a 2nd hit.
