Probably the most intensive thing she does is talk to friends on Skype while playing card games at pogo.com. She also uses it for Facebook, email, occasionally she'll watch streaming video. I don't think any of that takes much RAM but I'd rather her have too much RAM than any possibility of slowness. She doesn't need much hard drive space.

She could spend up to $1000 but if she doesn't need to then I'd rather not. I am thinking 4GB RAM is plenty. Again, it really needs to be a workhorse. She is on it all day. Is there a brand that's particularly known for really holding up to heavy use. She has a dying Toshiba that didn't last as long as she'd like.
