I did with my German Shepard.

He passed away just as the vet was coming in to give him the injection. Had my arms wrapped around him and my face next to his, giving him a kiss. I like to think of it as one last act of kindness and love toward me on his part, so that I didn't have to feel the guilt of having to make the decision to put him down, even though it was the right thing to do.

Yeah, nearly 20 years later and I still love and miss my buddy, Prince.
