Of all the things I'd have to teach a new (to us) dog to do, "go inside the house" was not one of them.

I wonder if she was abused (or originally an outside dog that was "taught" not to go inside) -- nm

She's a stray so we know nothing about her previous life, unfortunately.

it must be so confusing and overwhelming for them. if she seems happy, i would probably let her be. can you keep the door to the yard open?

The door has been propped open for a while. I've been in and out of the house so she can explore. Nathan has stuff to do out here so he is occupied.

She's very happy to get belly rubs on the grass. (Which is a little tricky with the spay incision)

You make sure a dog like that is chipped as it very likely will bolt at some point. -- nm

Make sure, absolutely sure, tgat the chip is registered. Our vet in Ohio chipped 6 of our pets, told us the chips were registered.

Yeah, a stray is more likely to go after a rabbit or whatever as they may very well have lived off of them in the past.

We have a rabbit family under the deck next door so rabbits are always in our backyard. Murphy was torn between staring them down warily, or once in
