So what? Every new architectural style has its detractors... that is kind of the point. How does this translate "the lesson is never try?"

Ugly, pretty, guesome, grand, beautiful, horrid, sleek. You can have any opinion you wish about any building. A distinctive look that's bold or striking, or maybe simply unique/not found anywhere else transcends the negative opinions its detractors might have. And there are always detractors. So?
