Why I believe Ebola air traffic restrictions are a terrible, terrible idea.

History has shown that as soon as you try to lockdown or quarantine an area, that triggers people to try to flee. There are many, many examples of this - it's pretty much an automatic response. Who wants to be locked into a death zone? So, you ban all flights out of Liberia, Sierra Leone, etc. That means people will get on the road and travel over land to the nearest unrestricted airport. Could be Senegal, Nigeria, etc. So, not only can people fly to Europe and the US anyway, but they are also spreading the virus much further around Africa.
IMO, travel restrictions are totally counterproductive. The only reason to put them in place is political, to pretend like we are doing something. The reality is that it makes everything worse.
just MHO.
