I didn't see any of that. It just looked like he went with a loose framework for the show and bounced around too much.

He seemed perfectly in command of his faculties.
I think if the show were less "old man monologuing" and more "old man performing a routine" that it would have been fine.
I think he had all the points he wanted to hit laid out, but left the space in between to be made up as he went along.
