I disagree

LA confidential is a stand alone, due to the script/acting/directing and all around the sum of the parts makes it fantastic - other cop movies fail in this regard.

LA Conf took a bit to get going but then the pace is brisk and it falls into place quite nicely. I think the time setting helped it though I can't say specifically why. The whole movie had an aura of mystery around it.

I saw it a few years after it came out so maybe I am spoilt by it?
