the police chief being the bad guy - not so original - the rest of it yes. The night owl murder scene, the sub plot of the girls like movie stars, rogue cop mixes it up with golden cop, savior scenes were all newish in the way they presented it - I even thought good cop/bad cop scene was well executed.
