It devolves so quickly into he said/she said and since the he and the she were likely the only people present, how do we sort that out?

The guy could be a violent man who hurts women or he could just be an raging asshole to them and this is them griefing him.

Absent some kind of evidence apart from statements, it's going to be hard to figure out where the truth is.
